The word 'team' may be both the most overused and the most misunderstood term we use in organizations. Different groups form for very different reasons and present unique characteristics that may not support all situations. Additionally, current research shows that teams may not develop quite the way we have long thought they did; their structure and purpose are critical to any organization seeking to derive the best out of its collective efforts.
